“So far 19 people have been confirmed dead with around 50 others injured," Ian Hopkins, Greater Manchester chief constable, said in a statement, adding that those wounded were being treated at six hospitals across Greater Manchester.

Police said the explosion took place outside the arena, which is near the Manchester Victoria transit station, as the concert ended at about 10:35 p.m. local time, catching people as they exited.

There were no immediate details of what happened during the concert by the American singer, but witnesses reported hearing two loud bangs coming from near the arena's bars.

If confirmed as a terrorist attack, it would be the worst strike on British soil since 2005, when Islamist extremists bombed the London subway and a bus, killing 54 people .

British Prime Minister Theresa May issued a statement in the early hours on November 23rd, saying that authorities were “working to establish the full details of what is being treated by the police as an appalling terrorist attack.”/.
