Cambodia begins voter registration for upcoming election

The National Election Committee (NEC) of Cambodia on September 1st began voter registration nationwide for the 6th National Assembly election, which is scheduled for July 29th, 2018.

All of the registration venues will open from November 1st-9th and voters, from 18 years old, are allowed to register and adjust their personal information on the voter list of the communal elections taking place on June 4th.

The NEC called major political parties, media and social organisations in the country as well as foreign organisations to further coordination to ensure a successful process.

The committee estimates that total population of Cambodia is over 15.88 million with 9.78 million eligible voters. However, only 7.86 million people joined in the previous communal elections.

In the upcoming National Assembly election, Cambodian people will vote for 125 members of parliament. Earlier, parties in the country shared 123 parliamentary seats, 68 of which were won by ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) while its opposition Cambodian National Rescue Party (CNRP) held 55 seats./.
