Mr. Shea is currently Vice Chairman of the US- China Economic and Security Review Commission, which is charged with annually assessing the security, economic and trade relationship between the two countries, including China’s compliance with its commitments to the World Trade Organisation.

The nomination, which has been submitted to the US Senate for approval, comes about five weeks before the Trump administration is planning to start the renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement with Mexico and Canada.

Dennis Shea has served as one of the top staffers in the US Congress. Mr. Shea also served as senior advisor to the chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee during the 2006 election. And, in 1992, he was the Republican and Conservative Party candidate for Congress from New York’s 7th Congressional District.
