Cambodian PM wants to arrest CNRP deputy leader after court order

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen announced on June 29th that he will order to arrest deputy opposition leader of the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) Kem Sokha when the court issues an order.

Earlier, the CNRP deputy leader ignored court summonses issued on May 17th and 25th over a case involving his alleged mistress. He has been hided inside the CNRP’s headquarters since May 26th when police tried to arrest him. The lawmaker could face a prison term up to six months if convicted.

The PM asserted that there will not be any pardon for this case.

Hundreds of CNRP supporters have gathered in front of the party’s headquarters in the south of Phnom Penh on June 16th to protect Sokha.

Riot police have been deployed to ensure public security./.
