Sitting side by side at a table flanked by alternating US and DPRK flags, Mr. Trump and Mr. Kim each signed copies of what President Donald Trump described as a “very important” and “pretty comprehensive document,” though he declined to elaborate on the details of the agreement at the time.
“We had a historic meeting and decided to leave the past behind and sign a historic document,” Mr. Kim Jong-un told reporters at the signing ceremony, speaking through a translator. “The world will see a major change.”
The agreement consists of four major points, in which the DPRK’s leader Kim Jong-un reaffirmed the April 27th, 2018, Panmunjom Declaration, in which the DPRK commits to work toward the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
Besides, US President Donald Trump committed to provide security guarantees to the DPRK.
After the meeting, President Donald Trump said the first sit-down was "very, very good" and called their relationship "excellent." He added that the two of them will "solve a big problem, a big dilemma."
Mr. Trump added that he was “absolutely” interested in a visit from Mr. Kim to the White House.
Earlier, preparations for the US-DPRK summit had been carried out in a very urgent atmosphere. On Sentosa Island, selected to host the historic meeting, security had been tightened to a high level.
Singapore’s armed forces were mobilised to be prepared for any emergencies, with the support of helicopters and jet-fighters.
