Japanese PM visits Pacific Rim nations to strengthen ties

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will visit the Philippines, Australia, Indonesia and Vietnam on a six-day trip from January 12th to strengthen security cooperation.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is set to conduct a two-day state visit to the Philippines from January 12th.

This will be Abe’s third official visit to the country. He first visited in 2013 and attended the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit in 2015.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to meet President Rodirgo Duterte and is also set to meet business groups in Manila and Davao City.

On January 14th, Mr. Abe will visit Australia and meet with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.  This will be an excellent opportunity to discuss the two countries’ close trade, defence and people-to-people links.

On January 15th, Abe will travel to Indonesia, where he is expected to confirm with Indonesian President Joko Widodo cooperation in maritime security and economic development in the fast-growing Southeast Asian nation.

In Vietnam, Abe will meet Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, President Tran Dai Quang and other top officials to strengthen the bilateral relationship.

As scheduled, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will return to Japan on January 17th./.
