On March 15th, President of the Republic of Korea (RoK) Moon Jae-in formed a committee to prepare for the upcoming summit with President of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong-un.

At a press conference on the same day, Presidential spokesman Kim Eui-keyom said that President Moon Jae-in appointed Im Jong-seok, presidential chief of staff, to lead the preparation committee.

Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon, the country's top policymaker in charge of inter-Korean affairs, was named as vice head of the presidential committee.

The committee will also include Chung Eui-yong, top security advisor for Moon; Jang Ha-sung, presidential policy chief; Suh Hoon, director of the National Intelligence Service (NIS), the country's spy agency; Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha; Defense Minister Song Young-moo; and Hong Nam-ki, the minister of the Office for Government Policy Coordination.

The committee will be divided into three subcommittees on agenda: communication and public relations; and operations support.

The summit is planned to focus on the DPRK’s nuclear weapons program and denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

If held as scheduled, President Kim Jong-un will become the first DPRK leader to set foot on the RoK territory since the 1950-53 Korean War ended in armistice, not peace treaty. The Korean Peninsula remains technically in a state of war.

Earlier, Presidents Moon Jae-in and Kim Jong-un agreed to hold a third inter-Korean summit at the Peace House at the Panmunjom truce village in late April.

The two last Inter-Korean summits were held in 2000 and 2007. The summits' agendas have included topics such as the ending of the 1953 war, the massive deployment of troops at the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone), the development of nuclear weapons by the DPRK and human rights issues./.
