Tokyo named world’s best big city

More than 420,000 readers of the United States (US) travel magazine Conde Nast Traveler have chosen Tokyo as the world’s best big city outside the US for the third year in a row.

“Topping our list of world cities yet again, Tokyo continues to thrill with its contradictions: ultramodern, neon-lit skyscrapers and tranquil temples, unmatchable street style and centuries-old etiquette,” the magazine said, adding that the Japanese capital is also “one of the world’s best food destinations.”

The winners of this year’s awards list were based on 429,000 surveys, which asked readers to vote for their favorite cities, hotels, cruise lines, airlines, islands and airports.

Japan was the only country that had three cities in the top 20 list.

2. Kyoto, Japan

3. Melbourne, Australia

4. Vienna, Austria

5. Hamburg, Germany

6. Sydney, Australia

7. Singapore

8. Paris, France

9. Barcelona, Spain

10. Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
