This visit is the first of a French official since the election of President Emmanuel Macron. It is part of regular dialogue between Algeria and France, which are linked by strong and diversified relations.

The visit aims to strengthen the unique partnership between France and Algeria. It will notably provide an opportunity to prepare for the forthcoming high-level bilateral events.

FM Jean-Yves Le Drian was received by the Algerian Prime Minister and by his counterpart, Abdelkader Messahel. 

The two diplomats will discuss bilateral cooperation and the crises in the region, notably in Libya, the forthcoming bilateral meetings, including the visit of French President Macron to Algeria in the next few weeks.

Macron had already visited Algeria on February 13th when, as part of his election campaign, he met with President Bouteflika./.
