Heat wave in India leaves at least 360 dead

India, currently experiencing a deadly heat wave, is seeing increasing frequency of extreme summer weather events in recent years.

According to the reports from localities, at least 360 have been killed by the severe weather.

Temperatures have reached as high as 48 degrees Celsius in parts of the northern states of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, and 47 degrees Celsius in New Delhi in recent days.

At least 10 people lost their lives in various parts of Uttar Pradesh in the last 24 hours, officials said on June 6th.

The number of patients suffering heat stroke, diarrhoea, vomiting or high fever has increased in hospitals across the state.

Chandigarh registered the hottest day of the season at 45 degrees Celsius. It was also the highest maximum recorded in the union territory in the last five years.

In the years since 2009, heatwaves in India have killed more than 1,300 people in 2010, 1,500 in 2013, and 2,500 in 2015, as the summers grow hotter./.
