India-Japan strengthen ties in counter-terrorism

On September 7th, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his counterpart Narendra Modi pledged to strengthen ties in the key areas of counter-terrorism.

Mr. Modi held talks with Mr. Abe after arriving in the Laotian capital to attend the ASEAN-India and the East Asia summits that took place on September 8th.

Abe said Japan was not going to succumb to terrorism and wanted to further strengthen cooperation with India in the area of counter-terrorism. 

During their meeting, Prime Minister Modi conveyed his condolences to Japanese Prime Minister Abe on the recent typhoon as well as the lives lost in the recent terror strike in a Bangladesh cafe.

The two leaders also discussed further strengthening and diversification of trade and investment ties.

Modi attended the 14th ASEAN-India Summit and 11th East Asia Summit and also had bilateral with leaders of Myanmar and the Republic of Korea./.
