During the meeting, the two leaders focused on pushing the strategic ties. They spoke about bilateral trade, peace in Afghanistan and India's concerns over Pakistan-based terror outfits.

“I deeply appreciate your strong commitment to the enhancement of our bilateral relations," PM Modi told President Trump. "I am sure that under your leadership a mutually beneficial strategic partnership will gain new strength, new positivity, and will reach new heights.”

President Donald Trump says the U.S. relationship with India has “never been better” as he hosts a dinner for Indian PM Narendra Modi at the White House.

Earlier, during a joint press statement with Mr. Trump, PM Modi said, “I would like to invite you to India, along with your family. And I hope that you will give me the opportunity to welcome you and host you in India”.

This is the first meeting between the two leaders.

PM Narendra Modi last visited the US in June 2016 at the invitation of former President Barack Obama./.
