Italy: Earthquake leaves one dead, seven missing

An earthquake registering 3.6 on the Richter scale on August 21st hit the Italian resort island of Ischia, killing at least one person and leaving seven missing.

The earthquake was recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).
Italy's National Vulcanology Institute put the initial magnitude at 3.6., while the USGS and the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre reported 4.3, according to AP.
Italy’s National Volcanology Institute said the earthquake struck a few minutes before 9 p.m. local time, just as many people were having dinner. The hardest-hit area was Casamicciola, on the northern part of the island. Several buildings in the town collapsed.
At least one hotel and parts of a hospital were evacuated. A doctor at the Rizzoli Hospital, Roberto Allocca, reported that some 26 people were being treated for minor injuries at a make-shift emergency room set up on the hospital grounds. He said the situation was calm and under control./.
