Mr. Abe is looking to hold a press conference on September 25th to announce his plan for the early general election.

Shinzo Abe told colleagues in the ruling conservative coalition that he was considering dissolving parliament on September 28th, when the lower house convenes for an extraordinary session, according to a government source.

In line with the schedule, official campaigning would start October 10th for the election on October 22nd, ruling Liberal Democratic Party sources said.

Abe is likely to decide on a specific date for the election after returning to Japan on September 22nd from a diplomatic tour to New York.

The PM is believed to have discussed an election schedule with Mr. Yamaguchi, leader of the LDP’s coalition partner.

The two leaders also seem to have confirmed that their parties will work even more closely so that they can stay in power.

Abe also met with LDP Secretary-General Toshihiro Nikai, to discuss how their party should prepare for the election./.
