Japanese PM visits Baltic, Eastern European nations

Japanese Prime Minister (PM) Shinzo Abe will visit the three Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, and three Eastern European nations including Bulgaria, Serbia and Romania, for six days from January 12th, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said.

It will be the first time for a Japanese Prime Minister to visit any of these countries.

"I will widen the frontier of Japanese diplomacy while confirming our close coordination on the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) issue and other pressing matters facing the international community," PM Abe said at a meeting between the government and ruling coalition of his Liberal Democratic Party and the smaller Komeito Party.

"I want to confirm our cooperation on DPRK and other urgent issues the international community faces," he told reporters before he left.

Abe, who will meet the heads of the six states on his tour, also noted that representatives from more than 30 companies would accompany him to develop business ties./.
