Kazuo Ishiguro wins 2017 Nobel Prize in literature

The British author Kazuo Ishiguro, the novelist best known for his book “The Remains of the Day” won the 2017 Nobel Prize in literature on October 5th.

Ishiguro's novels including “The Remains of the Day” and “Never Let Me Go”, was praised by the Swedish Academy for novels which “uncovered the abyss beneath our illusory sense of connection with the world” and were driven by a “great emotional force”.

Kazuo Ishiguro said he was both honored and “taken completely by surprise” after he was named this year’s winner of the 2017 Nobel prize in literature, even initially wondering if the announcement was a case of “fake news”.

Ishiguro, who was born in 1954 in Japan but moved to the United Kingdom when he was five years old, has written eight books as well as scripts for film and television.

"The Remains of the Day," published in 1989 was turned into a 1993 drama film starring Anthony Hopkins.

Along with the prize is a USD1.1 million award./.
