On August 6th, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson met on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit in Manila.

This was the first time Mr. Lavrov and Mr. Tillerson met after the new round of US sanctions against Russia was imposed.
The Russian Foreign Minister and the US State Secretary expected to discuss the issues of bilateral cooperation, as well as topics on the international agenda, including the situation in Syria.
The ASEAN Regional Forum at the ministerial level was held in Manila on August 6th - 7th at the Philippine International Convention Centre.
The ASEAN events were attended by the foreign ministers of the US, China, Japan, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the Republic of Korea (RoK), Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India and other states participating in the annual ASEAN Security Forum and the ministerial meeting of the East Asian Summit.
The events focused on issues such as fighting against terrorism, extremism and violence. As reported earlier by the President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte, following the meeting of the foreign ministers, a statement on the issues of combating terrorism, extremism and violence can be adopted./.
