US, Mexican and Canadian officials have concluded the first round of talks on the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

In a joint statement issued at the end of five days of negotiations in Washington, the top trade officials from the three countries said Mexico would host the next round of talks from September 1st to 5th.

The second round of talks will be held in Mexico, followed by a third round in Canada in late September and a fourth round in the US in October, with additional rounds being planned for the remainder of the year.

In total, seven rounds are expected through December, CNN reported.

The round one talks included each of the three sides discussing their expectations about the "rules of origins" issue, according to a Mexican government official.

The first round of talks to upgrade the accord underpinning over a trillion dollars of trilateral trade between the US, Mexico and Canada were held in Washington from August 16th-20th, US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer said./.
