Mr. Mihai Tudose, 50, will succeed Sorin Grindeanu, who was forced out last week as a result of a split in the governing party, the Social Democrats.

He, a member of Parliament since 2000, served two stints as Economy Minister since 2014, but remains a relatively obscure figure despite his time in public service.

Tudose will now have 10 days win over Romania’s parliament with a vote of confidence on his proposed cabinet and policy program.

“I trust Mr. Tudose to be a good manager and he’ll have to prove this through the cabinet’s performance,” Social Democrats leader Liviu Dragnea said before the vote. “Parliament as an institution is much stronger now after the no-confidence motion against Grindeanu, and it received the role it deserves.”/.
