After being canceled twice in the last 14 months, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman held the dialogue with US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo and Defence Secretary James Mattis.

“Signing of Communications Compatibility and Security Agreement (COMCASA) will enable India to access advanced technologies from the US,” Ms. Sitharaman said during the joint press briefing.

India and the US also pledged to expand their bilateral trade and economic partnership, with a view to promoting investment and job creation.

During the talks, the two countries also decided to set up hotlines between them.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in her remarks, said India and the US were committed to work together to combat the “persistent threat of terrorism” and other shared security challenges.

Celebrating over 70 years of diplomatic cooperation, the Ministers reaffirmed their view that India and the US, as sovereign democracies founded on the values of freedom, justice, and commitment to the rule of law, must continue to lead global efforts to promote peace, prosperity, and security./.
