The President’s message followed a speech by leader Kim Jong-un last week in which the DPRK’s leader presented the US with a deadline for moving negotiations between the two countries forward.

The US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on April 15th said he hoped President Donald Trump and leader Kim Jong-un could meet again soon.

Mr. Kim Jong-un said he would be prepared to meet President Trump for a third summit, but only if the US fundamentally changes its approach.

“If the US proposes to hold the third DPRK - US summit under the condition that the country has the right stance and finds out the methodology that can share with us, we are willing to try it one more time,” he said at the 14th Supreme People's Assembly (SPA) of the DPRK held at the Mansudae Assembly Hall on April 11th.

"I will not hesitate in signing an agreement only if it is written in a way that meets the interests of the DPRK and the US. ... this will entirely depend upon with what attitude and calculus the US would come up with," he added.

US President Donald Trump and DPRK’s leader Kim Jong-un have met twice, in Hanoi in February 2019 and in Singapore in June 2018.

The DPRK’s leader Kim Jong-un on April 12th was re-elected as Chairman of the State Affairs Commission, the state’s highest decision-making body at the opening day of the first session of the 14th SPA.

Mr. Kim was first elected to the post in June 2016, when the commission was created through an amendment to the constitution. Though it has been only three years since the election, his new five-year term should technically start with the beginning of the newly formed parliament./.
