At least 5,700 homes and other structures in California were destroyed.

As of Sunday (October 15th), roughly 75,000 people were under evacuation orders, down from nearly 100,000 the day before, Jaime Williams, a spokeswoman for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, said.

President Trump last week approved a federal disaster declaration after a request for federal assistance from California Gov. Jerry Brown.

Mr. Jerry Brown, speaking in Santa Rosa in a crisis meeting with officials, said: “This is truly one of the greatest tragedies that California has ever faced. The devastation is just unbelievable."

More than 10,000 firefighters and police have been deployed in a massive emergency operation./.
