6.5-magnitude quake hits Papua New Guinea

On November 7th, an earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale struck Papua New Guinea, but there were no immediate reports of damage.

The tremor hit at a depth of 107km some 67km from the town of Angoram, the administrative centre for the Pacific nation's Lower and Middle Sepik regions, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The US Tsunami Warning Centre has not yet issued any tsunami warning.

Locals reported no damage from the quake.

Earthquakes are common near Papua New Guinea, which lies on the 4,000-kilometre-long Pacific Australia plate./.
