At the meetings, the representatives discussed bilateral and regional issues including politics, the economy and people-to-people exchanges.

The meeting comes as relations between the two countries, often frayed by regional rivalry and historical issues, have strengthened.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and President Xi agreed last month on the sidelines of a regional economic summit in Vietnam that Asia's two biggest economies would make a "new start".

According to the document, the Japanese ruling coalition and the CPC also highlighted the significance of resolving the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) issues peacefully.

Yoshihisa Inoue, Secretary General of the Komeito, who also attended the meeting, said the momentum of improvement for Tokyo-Beijing ties is increasing and it is necessary to produce results which can be enjoyed by citizens of both countries.

The meeting is the seventh of its kind since 2006 and takes place with the participants' aiming to gain a greater understanding of each other's main policies./.
