Mr. Noureddine Bedoui will replace Ahmed Ouyahia as PM and has been tasked with forming a new government.
Algerian PM Ahmed Ouyahia resigned as President Abdelaziz Bouteflika announced he would not run for a fifth term.
Earlier, on March 11th, Bouteflika said he was withdrawing as a candidate in the presidential election set for April. He had been seeking a fifth term after 20 years in power.
Mr. Abdelaziz Bouteflika, born in 1937, is the fifth President of Algeria, in office since 1999.
He was Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1963 to 1979. As President, he presided over the end of the bloody Algerian Civil War in 2002, and he ended emergency rule in February 2011 amidst regional unrest. He was the President of the United Nations General Assembly for a term in 1974.
In November 2012, he surpassed Chadli Bendjedid as the longest-serving head of state of Algeria./.
