Cambodia ensures safety for communal election

Cambodia will prevent any actions to hinder the communal election process, said the country’s Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Samdech Sarkheng at a meeting on May 4th.

The official affirmed that the past and upcoming elections are important milestones of the country.
Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen also asked the Defence and Interior Ministries to collaborate with the National Election Committee to devise plans to ensure order and safety for the election, preventing any acts of sabotage in any forms.
The commune/ward election of Cambodia is scheduled for June 6th with the participation of 12 political parties. Both of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and the opposition Cambodian National Rescue Party registered to run for all posts at 1,646 communal/ward councils across the nation.
The electoral campaign will start from May 20th to June 2nd.
The commune/ward election is held in Cambodia in every five years. In the most recent election on June 3rd, 2012 with 10 major parties participating in, the ruling CPP won 1,592 seats at 1,633 communes and wards nationwide, accounting for 97 percent./.
