Cambodian exports to Japan totalled USD591 million between January and June, a 4.5 percent increase compared to the same period last year, according to the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO).

MeyKalyan, senior adviser to Cambodia’s Supreme National Economic Council, said the slower growth of exports to Japan could be the result of the weaker investment by Japanese manufacturers.

Cambodia’s exports to Japan mainly depend on the operation of Japanese manufacturers in Cambodia which produce goods to export back to Japan,  he said.

Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Sen is paying an official visit to Japan from August 6th-9th. The visit has been seen as a milestone in the 68-year history of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

During his stay in Japan, PM Hun Senis scheduled to talk about the encouragement of Japanese businesses to increase their investments in Cambodia./.
