Chile to elect President Michelle Bachelet’s successor

Chileans on November 19th began to vote in presidential elections to choose a successor to Michelle Bachelet.

With more than 80 percent of votes counted in the first round, former President Sebastian Pinera, who led the country from 2010 to 2014, won 36.67% percent of ballots, while second-place Guillier, a senator and former journalist, had 22.64 percent.

Mr Pinera will now face Socialist contender Alejandro Guillier in the second round on December 17th.

Incumbent leader Michelle Bachelet is unable to seek re-election under Chile's constitution.

The elections also choose 155 members of the lower House of Congress and 23 seats in the Senate./.
