At the meeting, the Chinese President praised Obama’s efforts to build ties between the two countries when he was the President of the United States.

“Maintaining the long-term, healthy and stable development of Sino-US relations is in the interests of both China and the US, and other countries in the world,” President Xi was quoted as saying.

The meeting was part of Obama’s first trip to Asia since leaving office, and came after weeks after President Xi hosted US President Donald Trump during a high-profile visit to China.

After meeting with President Xi, former President Obama will travel to New Delhi to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to speak at the HT Media Leadership Summit, which Modi will also attend.
