The Cuban President arrived in New York along with the country's delegation which includes Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment Rodrigo Malmierca Diaz, Minister of Communications, Jorge Luis Perdomo, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abelardo Moreno, permanent Ambassador to U.N. Anayansi Rodriguez, and the Ambassador of Cuba to the U.S., Ramon Cabanas.

The Latin American leader will participate in the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Mr. Miguel Diaz-Canel will make a speech at the event. One of the major issues that plagues the country is the commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States. “We bring the voice of Cuba that above all comes to denounce the abnormal policy of the blockade, a policy that has already failed, that will continue to fail, and that is the longest blockade in the history of humanity,” Diaz-Canel said on arrival, according to the Cuban Foreign Ministry.

The country has appealed to the U.N. repeatedly to end the unilateral blockade. During the 73rd UNGA debate, the Cuban President will also participate in several multilateral and bilateral meetings with various countries and organizations.

The Cuban National Assembly of People's Power on April 19th voted on First Deputy Chairman of the State Council of Cuba Miguel Mario Diaz-Canel Bermudez's nomination as President of Cuba’s Council of State and Council of Ministers.

Mr. Diaz-Canel, 58, served as Vice President of the powerful Council of State since 2013, when he was appointed by party leadership and approved by the National Assembly.

Diaz-Canel succeeded former President Raul Castro, the brother of revolutionary Fidel Castro and a symbol of the country's 1959 transition from an authoritarian government to a communist state./.
