Czech Republic sets date for presidential election in 2018

The Czech Republic Senate has set the date for the first round of the Czech presidential election, to be held January 12th - 13th next year.

Incumbent Czech President Milos Zeman will seek re-election for another five-year term.

To be registered, a presidential candidate has to submit at least 50,000 people's signatures or the signatures of 10 Senators or 20 deputies.

The deadline for the contenders to submit their official registration is November 7th.

The expected second round run-off will follow on January 26th-27th.

Each of the candidates will be able to spend up to USD1.8 million on the campaign, and a further 10 million in a second round if none of the candidates get a majority in the first round, according to Xinhua./.
