Pelosi invited Mr. Trump to deliver the address in a letter, posted on Twitter by her spokesman, Drew Hammill. It read, "In our conversation today, we agreed on February 5th. Therefore, I invite you to deliver your State of the Union Address before a Joint Session of Congress on February 5th, 2019 in the House Chamber."

In a return letter to Pelosi, President Trump thanked the Speaker for the invitation.

“It is a great honor to accept,” Trump wrote. “We have a great story to tell and yet, great goals to achieve!”

It had initially been scheduled for January 29th, but Mrs. Pelosi delayed it amid the partial government shutdown over Mr. Trump’s demand for border wall funding.

The House and Senate still must pass a resolution officially inviting Mr. Trump to speak to a joint session of Congress./.
