The troupe is jointly led by Ri Su-yong, a former Foreign Minister Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the ruling Workers' Party, and Hyon Song-wol, the leader of both the Samjiyon Orchestra and the Moranbong Band.

The art troupe is expected to help promote the bilateral friendship, as China and DPRK commemorate the 70th anniversary of their establishing diplomatic relations.

The visit comes at the invitation of the International Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.

The trip comes after DPRK leader Kim Jong-un visited Beijing earlier this month for his fourth summit talks with Chinese President Xi Jin-ping.

It will be the DPRK art troupe's first visit to the neighboring country since the DPRK's Moranbong Band called off a planned performance in Beijing at the last minute in 2015, after China reportedly took issue with contents of the performance featuring the DPRK's nuclear and missile development.

As scheduled, Chinese President Xi Jin-ping will also attend the event./.
