The explosions to demolish 10 guard posts in the DPRK side of the DMZ occurred at around 15h00 local time, almost simultaneously, and the complete destruction of the posts were confirmed.

The move was as part of preliminary steps towards implementing September’s inter-Korean military agreement.

The two Koreas had agreed to complete the demolition works by the end of November and conduct verification in December.

In September, their militaries agreed at a summit between RoK President Moon Jae-in and DPRK leader Kim Jong-un in Pyongyang to eventually dismantle all guard posts inside the 248-kilometer-long, 4-kilometer-wide border. They later withdrew weapons and troops from 11 of their guard posts and decided to completely dismantle 10 of them.

The DMZ has left the Korean peninsula divided since the 1950-1953 Korean War ended with armistice./.
