This would be the first time that diplomats from the DPRK will participate in an event sponsored by the RoK Unification Ministry.

The forum will be held under the theme “The peace and future for the Korean peninsula”.

The participation of diplomats from the DPRK will reflect improving inter-Korean relations following the historic summit talks between RoK’s President Moon Jae-in and DPRK’s leader Kim Jong-un on April 27th.

The DPRK’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on May 12th that the country’s only known nuclear test site, Punggye-ri, would be dismantled between May 23rd and May 25th, depending on the weather conditions.

Journalist from China, Russia, the US, the UK and the RoK will be invited to witness the dismantling process.

US President Donald Trump said the plan by the DPRK to dismantle the nuclear test site ahead of the big summit between the DPRK and the US, which is to negotiate the denuclearization and normalization of the relationship between the two countries, set in Singapore on June 12th, is “a very smart and gracious gesture”./.
