Egypt reshuffles government, appoints four new ministers

Egypt on January 14th reshuffled its government and appointed four new ministers.

Accordingly, Mr. Abu Bakr al-Gendi was appointed as Minister of Local Development. Mr. Khaled Badawi was named Business Minister.

U.S. educated economist Rania al-Mashat takes over the tourism portfolio and Ms. Enas Abdeldayem was named as Culture Minister.

The National Election Commission (NEC) announced on January 8th that Egypt’s presidential election will take place on March 26th - 28th.

The NEC said candidates must register between January 20th - 29th and in case of no single participant winning a majority the first time around, a run-off would be held on April 24th - 26th.

First round results will be announced on April 2nd, and in the event of a run-off, on May 1st.

The election will be Egypt’s third since the 2011 uprising that ended strongman Hosni Mubarak’s long rule./.
