EU – League of Arab States summit opens in Egypt

The first-ever EU - League of Arab States (LSA) summit, under the slogan “Investing in Stability”, opened in the Egyptian resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh on February 24th - 25th.

The summit was co-chaired by European Council President Donald Tusk, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el- Sisi and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker.

It was attended by 24 European leaders, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and the Italian and British Prime Ministers, Giuseppe Conte and Theressa May.

The event discussed issues to strengthen Arab-European ties. Leaders addressed a wide range of current challenges and common opportunities, such as multilateralism and the rules based global order, trade and investment, migration, climate change and security.

Besides, the summit also provided an opportunity for leaders to discuss the latest developments in the region, such as the situations with the Middle East Peace Process, Yemen, Libya and Syria./.
