Mr. Giuseppe, born in 1964, is a law professor and was nominated by Matteo Salvini of the far-right League and Luigi Di Maio of the anti-establishment Five Star Movement (M5S).

In a brief address, he promised “a government of change” but acknowledged that Italy was going through a “delicate” time of great challenges.

"We have indicated the name of Giuseppe Conte to the President of the Republic," Mr. Luigi Di Maio wrote on the official blog of the M5S, after meeting the President in Rome on May 22nd.

"I'm very proud of this name because he is the Five Star Movement in a nutshell, he won't burden the Italian public."

Mr. Giuseppe Conte currently teaches law in Florence and Rome./.
