India-Malaysia relations growing

The relations between India and Malaysia will flourish via regular high-level visits and active engagements in such fields as defence, economic, political, cultural and people-to-people exchanges, said India’s High Commissioner to Malaysia Mridul Kumar.

In the past four years, India and Malaysia conducted four visits by the Head of Government, notably the visit to Malaysia in May, 2018 by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Talking with Bernama, Kumar said “This year, once our election is over, we can expect important visitors from Malaysia to India and vice-versa.”

India’s general election this year is scheduled to be held from April 11th to May 19th.

Regarding defence cooperation, India sent the largest delegation to join Malaysia’s 2019 Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) from March 26th-30th.

He also described the India-Malaysia ties as at its best as it was due to the personal rapport between the two countries’ leaders and based on complementarities and mutual interest.

India is Malaysia’s 10th largest trade partner. The two countries’ target of two-trade value of USD15 billion set for 2020 was achieved in 2018/2019./.
