International press praises former Prime Minister Phan Van Khai

The international press has run several articles on former Vietnamese Prime Minister Phan Van Khai after he passed away on March 17th.

Singapore media highlights former Prime Minister Phan Van Khai's death

In its article on his death, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) assessed Phan Van Khai as “an architect of Vietnam's economic rise”.

Meanwhile, the Australian Newspaper stressed that the former Prime Minister was a great contributor to Vietnam’s economic growth and the country’s first prime minister to visit the United States after the end of the war.

Singapore Television Channel News Asian said “Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan have written to their Vietnamese counterparts to convey their condolences over the death of former Vietnam Prime Minister Phan Van Khai, Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Tuesday (March 20th)”.

The Associated Press highlighted that Phan Van Khai as an architect of Vietnam's economic rise.

“Khai oversaw Vietnam's fastest and most stable economic growth during his nine years in office from 1997 to 2006. He signed a bilateral trade agreement with the U.S. in 2000 and oversaw Vietnam's entry into the World Trade Organization in 2006. He was also the architect of the Business Law, which was introduced in 1999 and paved the way for private businesses to thrive in Vietnam.”

He paid an official visit to the US in 2005.

Cuba’s news agency Prensa Latina called former Vietnamese Prime Minister Phan Van Khai, one of the strategists of the revolution process in the country, who died at the age of 85.

The article also reviewed the leader’s great contributions to Vietnamese economics after renovation.

The Russian News Agency Sputnik also praised Former Socialist Republic of Vietnam Prime Minister Phan Van Khai, crediting him with the economic recovery and modernization of a country.

Former Politburo member and former Prime Minister Phan Van Khai passed away at 01h30 on March 17th at Cu Chi district, Ho Chi Minh city, aged 85, according to the Board of health care services for senior officials.

Phan Van Khai was born on December 25th, 1933 in Cu Chi district, Ho Chi Minh city.

The Party and State have presented Prime Minister Khai the Golden Star Order and the 55-year Party Membership Badge (2014), in recognition of his dedication to the country's revolutionary cause./.
