Jens Stoltenberg re-appointed as NATO Secretary General

The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) on December 12th re-appointed Mr. Jens Stoltenberg, former Norwegian Prime Minister, as the Secretary General.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg will serve for two more years at the head of the world's biggest military alliance.

The former Norwegian Prime Minister, born in 1959, has served as NATO’s Secretary General since October 2014.

“NATO is the most successful alliance in history because it has adapted as the world has changed,” Stoltenberg wrote. “As we continue to adapt in 2018, NATO allies are committed to spending more and better on defence, improving burden-sharing among allies, strengthening our transatlantic bond and preserving the peace for future generations.”

Jens Stoltenberg served as Prime Minister of Norway from 2000 to 2001 and from 2005 to 2013.

In 2011, Mr. Stoltenberg received the United Nations (UN) Champion of Global Change Award in New York city, US, for his extraordinary effort toward meeting the Millennium Development Goals and bringing fresh ideas to global problems./.

The NATO also called the North Atlantic Alliance, is an intergovernmental military alliance between several North American and European states based on the North Atlantic Treaty that was signed on April 4th, 1949.
