Lopez Obrador formally declared Mexico’s President

The Electoral Tribunal of Federal Judiciary of Mexico (TEPJF) on August 8th declared Mr. Lopez Obrador Mexico’s next President at a ceremony in the capital.

President-elect Lopez Obrador is estimated to have received over 53% of the vote, more than double the total of his closest rival, according to the country's electoral commission.

"Today, they have recognized our victory," Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, known by his initials AMLO, told a crowd of jubilant supporters at an event in Mexico city.

Court President Janine Otalora called the election "historic" and says it showed the maturity of Mexico's democracy.

Lopez Obrador was the candidate of a leftist coalition composed of his Morena party, as well as smaller political parties.

On December 1st, Lopez Obrador will be sworn in by the Congress of the Union as President of the Mexican Republic for a 2018 - 2024 term./.
