Magnitude 6 earthquake hits Ecuador coast

The US Geological Survey said an earthquake measuring 6 on the Richter scale has struck along the coast of Ecuador, 19 km from Bahia de Caraquez at 06h19 local time.

President Lenin Moreno said there were no immediate reports of victims or major damage from the quake.
Former Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa tweeted: “Strong tremor in San Vicente and Bahia. I hope everything is fine”.
“Here in Esmeraldas it was also felt strongly. It reminds me of harder times in my presidency”.
A previous earthquake left hundreds dead last year in the same area. At least 676 people died and 16,000 were injured in that disaster./.
