Mahathir made the statement at the PNB Corporate Summit 2019 themed “Rebooting Corporate Malaysia” on October 30th.

The PM said that the government has launched crucial reforms to enhance stability, strengthen fiscal management and corporate governance and transparency.

However, he said, the government continues to be weighed down by the debt that it was saddled with by the previous administration, and it will take time to improve the country’s fiscal situation.

The PM stressed that the government remains committed to undertaking necessary initiatives to achieve the primary goal of restructuring the economy as one that is progressive, knowledge-based and empowering to Malaysians.

To achieve this, Mahathir said it is imperative that the private sector takes the lead as a key driver of the economy.

The government leader also asked Malaysian firms to reboot themselves and integrate into the changing business environment./.
