Earlier, President Duda accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Beata Szydlo and her cabinet.

Mateusz Morawiecki, born in 1968, has served as Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Development and Minister of Finance in the cabinet of Beata Szydło. He also served as chairman of Bank Zachodni WBK from 2007 to 2015.

In his first interview since his appointment, Morawiecki told: “We want to change Europe. My dream is to make it Christian again, since unfortunately, in many places, people no longer sing Christmas carols, the churches are empty and are turning into museums, and this is very sad.”

Law and Justice (PiS) politicians have said that the change of Prime Minister reflects the Government’s determination to focus on the economy over the next two years.

Under the Polish constitution, the President must appoint a Prime Minister and a Cabinet within 14 days of accepting the resignation of the previous government. The President must swear in new ministers./.
