Mr. No Kwang-chol, first Vice Minister of the Ministry of People's Armed Forces, replaced Pak Yong-sik as Defence Minister.

No Kwang Chol (37, is a North Korean soldier, a three-star general, and a member of the political bureau) was known as a "moderate", according to Yonhap.

According to Yonhap news agency, which cited intelligence sources, the chief of the general staff Ri Myong Su has also been replaced by his deputy, Ri Yong Gil.

The appointment happened ahead of the Summit between President Trump and DPRK's leader Kim Jong-un. The two leaders are set to meet in Singapore on June 12th.

The news agency quoted the source as saying that the previous top officials "lacked flexibility in thinking" and the reshuffle bringing in new figures might have been carried out amid new developments in inter-Korean relations and the situation on the Korean peninsula./.
