The Philippine National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council stated that the figures are based on initial reports and are likely to increase.

Typhoon Mangkhut at one point had maximum gusts of 305km/h before it exited the land area before noon and moved towards southern China and Vietnam with reduced wind speeds of 170km/h.

Philippine state weather agency PAGASA downgraded the domestic threat level, but warned the danger was far from over, with continued storm surges and heavy rains that could trigger floods and more landslides.

Floods occur in several provinces and many areas in Manila capital city. More than 40 landslides were recorded in Cordillera region.

The typhoon also damaged many houses and forced over 60,000 households in the northern region of the Philippines to be evacuated.

Mangkhut, the strongest typhoon so far this year, is predicted to hit Vietnam’s northern region on September 17th morning and bring heavy downpours and strong winds to 27 northern and north central provinces and cities./.
