PM Trudeau, who took office two years ago, is making his second official visit to China from December 3rd to 7th.

Government officials said that the focus of Trudeau’s trip will be deepening economic ties and attracting more Chinese investment to Canada.

“It shows that China-Canada relations have indeed entered a golden era,” Premier Li said during a meeting with PM Trudeau.

At the meeting in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, the two leaders signed an action plan on energy cooperation, as well as two memorandum of understanding on food products and a “Canada learning initiative.”

“The opportunities for deepening our economic and people-to-people ties are tremendous,” Mr. Trudeau said in opening remarks.

The two leaders also reached agreement on various issues of common interest, such as jointly dealing with climate change and clean growth, and celebrating a China-Canada Year of Tourism in 2018.

During the visit to Beijing and Guangzhou, Trudeau will also meet President Xi Jinping and Zhang Dejiang, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.

China is Canada's second biggest trading partner. Canada's exports to China totalled nearly USD21 billion in merchandise last year./.
