Erdogan was elected on June 24th in a vote marking Turkey's transition to an executive presidential system of government.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan won an absolute majority in the presidential election with 52.59 percent of the vote, according to Turkey’s Supreme Election Council.

"As President, I swear upon my honor and integrity, before the great Turkish nation and history, to work with all my power to protect and exalt the glory and honor of the Republic of Turkey and fulfill the duties I have taken on with impartiality," Erdogan said as he took his oath during a special parliamentary session in Ankara.

Under the new system, the president forms government, appoints Ministers, Vice Presidents and high-level bureaucrats.

After taking his oath, Erdogan visited the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of modern Turkey./.
