As scheduled, Ms. Kang met her US counterpart to learn more details about Korean envoys’ visit to Washington earlier this week to extend an invitation by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) leader Kim Jong-un to US President Donald Trump.

As for a nuclear - free Korean Peninsula, “the US and the DPRK should sit face to face,” and Seoul is committed to making all-out efforts for real progress towards denuclearization, the minister said.

“The US expressed its wish for our foreign minister to visit as planned,” the RoK Foreign Ministry said in a text message on March 14th, saying Minister Kang Kyung-wha would meet Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump appointed CIA Director Mike Pompeo as the new Secretary of State.

“Mike Pompeo, Director of the CIA, will become our new Secretary of State," Trump wrote in a tweet, adding: "Thank you to Rex Tillerson for his service!"

The White House on March 8th confirmed that President Trump has accepted an invitation from the DPRK’s leader, Kim Jong-un, to hold an unprecedented summit meeting to reach an agreement on nuclear disarmament./.
